Future Farmers: Where Are They Now

This past month, across the country FFA chapters celebrated National FFA Week. This celebration serves as a reminder to support local chapters and celebrate the organization’s impact on agricultural education and fostering future agriculturally involved citizens.

Upon realizing the excitement surrounding the week, we discovered we had several FFA alumni in our presence, so the obvious thought was to feature some throwbacks in our newsletter. As for where our FFA alumni are on our team… they are everywhere! From driving truck, selling feed, to our veterinary associates—FFA has positively impacted Spencer Ag Center’s staff. The FFA Alumni on our team include: Grace Thompson (vet), Andrew Quail (field marketer), Harvey Williams (field marketer), Kyle Long (vet assistant), Tom Johnson (showroom manager), Mitch Cahill (truck driver), Shane Meyer (truck driver), Paul Behrens (purchaser), Ryan Phillips (clinic manager), and Tim Christensen (field marketer)

“I think if you get an FFA or 4-H kid, you can’t pass them up. They know the meaning behind a late night or early morning choring and have a defined sense of work ethic that follows that mindset.” — Tim Christensen
The work ethic of our team is evident! From our FFA, 4H, and ag-involved team members who work by our side. Thank you!

Wall of Showmen
Spencer Ag Center's wall of showmen is a fun walk through history, displaying photos of some of our team members during their showing days, as well as family members, FFA & 4-Hers, and those who have fed Spencer Ag Center Feed to their livestock.
If you have a few pictures of you or your children that you'd like commemorated on our wall, feel free to bring a copy of the images into the store. Please only bring photos that are 4x6 or 5x7; we'll provide the frame. We'd love for our wall to be full of our Spencer Ag Community!

Introducing Lidobands
Lido bands are an innovative way to band sheep and cattle, while maintaining a focus on animal welfare and comfort. “Lidoband, a novel lidocaine-impregnated elastrator developed for livestock production, aims to address the pain and discomfort associated with band castration by delivering lidocaine quickly. By utilizing advanced technology, Lidoband provides lasting lidocaine effects for the duration of the procedure, which offers enhanced comfort to the animals during the process.
The Lidoband contains 80mg of lidocaine and a skin permeation enhancer, allowing the anesthetic to seep from the band to the tissue. The use of Lido band delivers lidocaine into the scrotal tissue as fast as 2 hours and for up to 42 days. This approach avoids surgery or the administration of injection, which would also decrease the time and handling costs for the producer.”
